Application: Blog—Selecting Distance Learning Technologies
For this application I decided to choose example 1 to identify distance learning technologies that would be best fit to address the concern. The major corporation needs to implement their new automated staff information system to all of their employees throughout six different regional offices. As the instructional designer for this task, there are a number of different ways to assure that each employee receives the most accurate and up to date information. The best possible way I thought would be best to assure this would be to utilize a variety of different discussion technologies. Discussion technologies are participatory in nature and require that a number of individuals write and respond to each others’ post. (The Technology of Distance Education". (2010).
Since this is a new staff information system, I have created a classroom environment through ecollege providing each employee access to complete. Each week will be dedicated to a specific regional office. Within each week the major corporation has authorized me to pick a designated time to devote to training for each regions training period. Documents as well as media pieces are provided to give a full outlook of the staff information system.
I am also using Microsoft Live meeting to conduct live trainings directly from my laptop. Employees will be required to access and participate in the live meeting. Even though employees are in different regions, we will also use Yahoo Instant Messenger from our laptops to communicate instantly via computer so that questions or concerns can be address accordingly. The discussion board within the classroom will prompt active discussions about the new system and will also allow for employees to interact with each other who have not had a chance to meet personally.
